Principles of Flight Simulation brings together material currently disseminated throughout specialised texts and papers to provide an introductory guide tothe technical aspects of flight simulator design, including both the theory of dynamic systems and the practical aspects of implementing a flight simulator. Starting by describing the evolution for simulation and its uses in trainingand research, it goes on to introduce mathematical modelling and the computational methods used to simulate these models. These concepts are then applied to flight mechanics and dynamics, and equations of motion are introduced, as well as mathematical methods that demonstrate how these equations are solved. The book goes on to discuss the modelling and simulation of flight control systems, avionic systems, visual and display systems and motion systems, and addresses the issues of simulator verification and the validation of flight models. Principles of Flight Simulation features case studies based on, and images s group at Sheffield University (http://fltsim.group.shef.ac.uk). Code examples are provided to support the text and the complete software used in the flight simulator will be provided via an accompanying website.
