Staging and performing translation: text and theatre practice

This exploration of the territory between theory and practice in contemporarytheatre features essays by academics from theatre and translation studies, and delineates a new space for the discussion of translation in the theatre thatis international, critical and scholarly, while rooted in experience and understanding of theatre practices. ROGER BAINES is head of the School of Language and Communication Studies at the University of East Anglia, UK. He has published on the work of Pierre Mac Orlan, personal insults and ritual insults in contemporary French, and thetranslation and adaptation of Adel Hakim's 1990 play 'Exécuteur 14.'. ''. CRISTINA MARINETTI is Assistant Professor in Translation Studies at the University of Warwick, UK and associate editor of the translation journal 'Target'. Shehas published on translation theory; translation for performance; Italian andBritish theatre with a specialization in Goldoni and 'commedia dell'arte'. Recent projects explore meeting grounds between translation and performance in multilingual, migrant theatres. MANUELA PERTEGHELLA is Senior Lecturer in Applied Translation at London Metropolitan University, UK.
