Stemming from a series of National Science Foundation grants and initiatives,this book presents a unique collection of strategies that have been used successfully in chemistry classrooms to create a learner-sensitive environment that enhances academic achievement. Featuring chapters from chemistry professors and research groups from a wide variety of research universities, the book will discuss a variety of chemistry concepts including environmental chemistry (with discussion of global warming, smog, local air quality, and air pollution regulations), chemistry laboratory research, and forensics, among others.Sharmistha Basu-Dutt, is associate professor and Engineering Studies Coordinator at University of West Georgia. She has received National Science foundation funding for a handful of her groundbreaking projects melding education and chemistry. Known for her innovative teaching techniques, Basu-Dutt is a master at collaborative and cooperative learning, inquiry-based learning, integrativeteaching, and activities-based interdisciplinary approaches.
