Mission-based management: leading your not-for-profit in the 21st century
Brinckerhoff, Peter C.
Much has changed since the second edition came out in 2000. Nonprofits are much more competitive, managed care has taken hold at the state and federal level, and radical changes in information technology have occurred. Organizationaltransparency, both internally and externally, is something that affects the functioning of a nonprofit, and is now a characteristic of a successfull nonprofit. Strategic planning must now take into account technology plans and disaster plans. These changes will be addessed in the new edition. Each chapter starts with an Overview, then the main content, a Recap, and a list of questions for group discussion, and a checklist of things to do. As in all the other books in the mission-based management series, the chapters would be full of ‘for example’ and ‘hands-on’ sections, and written in a friendly conversational tone. Chapters include: Introduction; Where We Were, Where We Are, Where We're Going; What Works: The Characteristics of A Successful Not-for-Profit; The Mission is the Reason; A Businesslike Board of Directors; Managing Your People; The Wired Not-for-Profit; Creating a Social Entrepreneur ; Developing a Bias For Marketing; Financial Empowerment; A Vision to Make the Future; The Controls That Set You Free; Resources for Further Study.
