This is a guide which aims to help scientists prepare their manuscripts in an appropriate format, and to write them in good English. English is the most important language for scientific communication. Increasingly, scientists who are not native-English speakers want to publish in English and in western journals, and competition for publication in the most prestigious journals published in Europe and North America is intense. Brian Eyden has written or been a co-author or co-editor of four major titles, as well as authoring some 200 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He also has several years’ experience of English-language editing of pre-publication manuscripts from Chinese scientists. The Guide is therefore based on an extensive experience of publishing research papers and of editing. Although the primary readership for the Guide would be the Chinese scientist, scientists who are not native-English speakers from other countries might also benefit from this Guide. Such countries would include Japan, certain other Asian countries, countries from Central and South America, and some Mediterranean, and Eastern European countries. The Guide has several sections, which include the following:- preliminary advice on preparing a manuscript; punctuation; detailed aspects of manuscript preparation; and finally, a section on English language expression. The Guide has a biomedical emphasis, and is available in an electronic alternative.
