Fowkes is Professor of Media Studies at High Point Universityand has taught film for more than fifteen years including a recently created special topics course entitled: Monsters, Ghosts, and Angels in Popular Film. Fowkes holds a Ph.D. in critical and cultural media studies from U.T. Austin where she studied under noted scholars Janet Staiger, Tom Schatz, and Horace Newcomb. She also holds an M.A. in Screenwriting and has written and consulted on scripts with Fantasy and Science-Fiction themes.
