The book is focused on the basic mechanisms underlying neurological disorders, presenting clinical information where needed to place into perspective the discussion of mechanisms. The book is aimed at nonclinician neuroscientists, who may possess the conceptual and technical expertise required for productive investigations in translational research but lack frequent contact with scientifically oriented clinicians who can inform them about current concepts and recent developments. The book is divided into two parts, covering topics relevant to the central nervous system (Part A) and the peripheral nervous system (Part B). Within these divisions the topics include many of the major categories of disease process with individual chapters describing the mechanisms underlying specific disorders.
