During the last decade a new understanding of solid state reactions at the nanoscale has been reached by groups worldwide. New models can describe nucleation in nano-sized diffusion zones and in nano-systems, and how principles of thermodynamics can be applied to solid state reactions. The approached and results are available so far only in various journal papers. There is the need to present them coherently in a book at professional level.
