Libraries are undergoing a massive shift in their workforce. The baby boomers are exiting the workforce which has generated an influx of Gen Y and millennials. Each generational group brings with it a working mindset that has been shaped, at least in part, by times during which its members were educated and spent their formative early-career years. For the librarian manager, it is important to understand the needs and perspectives of all the various generations and the career stages they are in, in order to effectively manage the library. Large or small, most libraries will have multiple staff members working together to achieve the common goal of meeting their users' needs. Such staff (especially in large organizations) will be a mix of several different generational groups at a variety of career stages. Managers in these organizations face daily challenges of many kinds with their staff, some of which will stem from the differing generational perspectives. This book addresses that pointThe practical advice that this book provides on recognizing these different perspectives and on working with librarians in different career phases and generations will help managers prepare themselves and their staff to avoid some of these challenges before they occur; and will equip them to better solve problems that do arise INDICE: 1.
