Japanese politics are undergoing a great transition, with seven prime ministers appointed within the past decade and two major political party turnovers within the last two decades. This book explores the gradual shift from what the editors call 'karaoke democracy' to 'kabuki democracy.' Takashi Inoguchi is Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo and President of the University of Niigata Prefecture.
