Digital filters: theory, application and design of modern filters
Kapadia, Rajiv J.
A book on the various methods an engineer uses to separate the signal from the noise. As this is done most of the time by the use of a suitable filter, this book focuses on the understanding and design different types of filters, as there are discrete filters and linear filters which can be either deterministic filters or stochastic filters. The first part of the book provides the readerwith a general discussion of filters. All filters examined are linear time invariant and mostly finite in their impulse response. The reader is introduced to efficient ways of implementing these filters. The author describes multirate filters which change the sampling rate of the signal so that different techniques can be used to either permit the use the signal in different devices, orto compress it efficiently. This wil be followed by a tretise on optimum filters. The modern approach to the design and use of filters covers advanced theories such optimization and prediction, which are thoroughly discussed on the example of Weiner filter which operate on stochastic signals. The final part is devoted to application classes of adaptive filters which are used in diverse fields such as sonar, control systems, biomedical engineering and many others. The similarities in the use of the adaptive filters lead to four different waysthe adaptive filter is used in any of these fields, and hence the author gives details on system identification, inverse modeling, prediction modeling, andinterference canceling. This book is suited for the practitioneer, and canalsoserve as text for a graduate course. A collection of about 190 problems and projects is available online. INDICE: 1. Discrete Time Signals and Systems2. Discrete Time Systems in the Frequency Domain3. The Z-Transform4. Filter Design5.
