This book traces the international political and legal developments concerning the rights, treatment and status of indigenous peoples. The work argues that indigenous peoples are governed in international politics through particular biopolitical technologies, technologies that appear benevolent, yet are nothing short of colonialist. The authors demonstrate how the celebrated political inclusion of indigenous peoples in fact marks their exclusion and how the peoples’ much-admired environmental knowledge constrains indigeneity, rendering it local rather than promoting their global political position.
