A subject of numerous experimental studies over the past decade, plant nitrogen uptake is an important process in agricultural production and environmentalquality. However, there is still a limited understanding of its complex interactions with other soil-plant conditions. This book quantitatively examines plant nitrogen uptake, paying close attention to its interaction with other processes in agricultural systems, such as soil condition and plant growth. International contributors offer their perspectives, discussing commonalities and dissimilarities in simulating plant nitrogen uptake among various agricultural system models. The text also includes a CD with additional material. INDICE: Simulation of Plant N Uptake in Watershed Management. Modelling Water and N Uptake and Responses in Models of Wheat, Potatoes, and Maize. Nitrogen Application Rate and Carbon Assimilation in Potato: What can this tell us about Nitrogen Demand and Uptake? Role of Dissolved Organic Nitrogen in Agroecosystem Sustainability. Modeling Grain Protein Formation in Relation to Nitrogen Uptake and Remobilization in Rice Plant. Quantifying Plant N Uptake with 3D Root Architecture. Modeling N Fixation and its Relationship to N Uptake in theCROPGRO Model. Roots below 1 meters depth are important for Nitrate Uptake byAnnual Crops. Modelling of Nitrate Uptake, N Translocation and Remobilizationbased on Short Term 15N Labeling in Brassica napus L. Current Status of PlantN Uptake Simulation in Agricultural System Models: An Overview. From Microbial Activities to Root Uptake Kinetics: The Role of Rhizospheric Biology in Plant Nitrogen Uptake.
