Social movements in the global South: dispossession, development and resistance

Popular struggles in the global south suggest the need for the development ofnew and politically enabling categories of analysis, and new ways of understanding contemporary social movements. This book shows how social movements in Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East politicize development in an age of neoliberal hegemony. SARA C. Her research focus is the politics of subaltern resistance, with particular reference to Latin America. ALF GUNVALD NILSEN Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Sociology, University of Bergen, Norway. His work revolves around social movement theory and research, critical development research, and Marxist approaches to capitalist development.
