Injury biomechanics and control: optimal protection from impact
Pilkey, Walter D.
Balandin, Dmitry V.
Bolotnik, Nikolai N.
The book covers the optimal protection from impact and shock, and in particular, the prevention of injuries. Injury control, a new branch of engineering science, is developing rapidly, incorporating the fundamentals of biomechanics, engineering mechanics, and control design. Treating the human body as a multi-faceted engineering system, the goal is to predict and ultimately design systems to prevent injury to a human being under specific environmental conditions whether in an automobile, aircraft, or military situation. The material in this book is divided into two parts. The first part (Chapters 1-6) presents the fundamentals of optimum protection from impact, without a specific reference toinjury control. The second part deals with the control of particular injuriescaused by impact loading, and is based on the material in the first part of the book.
