The book explains how molecular pathology can help at each step of the drug development process. After opening with an explanation of molecular pathology and the drug discovery and development process, the first chapters look in moredetail to the early discovery process in drug development moving from early identification of drug targets to identification of biomarkers involved with specific compounds. One chapter focuses on toxicology, and how molecular pathology is helping to identify early problems with specific drugs including biopharmaceuticals. Following chapters cover the uses of molecular pathology in earlyclinical trials, the current uses of molecular pathology in the life cycle management of drugs, and molecular pathology from the point of view of the contract research organizations which help the development of new drugs and guide pharmaceutical companies in development. The book finishes with two chapters that capture the latest developments in the field, namely the use of tissue microarrays and the quantification of the staining.
