The microbiome is the entire set of microorganisms interacting with hosts or inhabiting a given environment. In Brazil, several groups are studying microbial biodiversity in various, environments such as oceanic islands, seas and oceans, mangroves, or interacting with animals, plants, or other organisms. Brazil is recognized as one of the most mega-diverse countries, but its microbial functional and taxonomical diversity is still considered unknown.
