This book has already been published in the German language by German publisher, Hanser. Presented as a clear introduction to the topics of climate protection and renewable energy, it demonstrates the correlations between use of energy, energy prices and climate change. It evaluates and analyses the current world situation (drawing on examples given from countries across the globe), whilst also giving essential and practical guidance on personal climate protection. Each major type of renewable energy system is covered in detail and with aneasy-to-read approach. This means that the book can be used as a manual for planning and realizing climate protection and renewable energy systems, while also being an informative textbook for those studying renewable energy and environment and sustainability courses. Starting with an introduction that addresses issues such as energy waste and the role of carbon dioxide in climate change, the book then discusses photovoltaics, solar thermal systems and solar power plants. A chapter devoted to each type of energy ensures a balanced treatment of the topics. Wind power plants are analyzed next, before hydro power plants and geothermal power. Heat pumps and biomass are looked at, also hydrogen economy and fuel cells. Economic aspects, as well as development potentials, areanalyzed in the case of each energy technology presented. Examples are given at the end of the book to supplement and validify the theory. What makes this book unique is its coverage of state-of-the-art technology, and the intelligible and attractive way it is presented. Other books on this subject tend to be too full of calculations and too specific for engineers new to the areas of renewable energy.
