Wavelet Theory: An Elementary Approach with Applications is an introductory text on the topic of wavelets. The book develops the fundamentals of wavelet theory in the first five chapters and subsequent chapters explore applications and additional ideas. This book reinforces concepts learned in calculus and linear algebra courses, hones proof reading and writing skills, and provides exposure to current mathematics and real-world applications. The material discussed in the exercises is broken down into manageable pieces for readers, and thisapproach also gives instructors considerable flexibility in emphasis on different sections of the book. Hints are also provided to help readers solve the problems. The book is supplemented by a software package called DiscreteWavelets, which is available in Mathematica, MATLAB, and MapleTM formats. DiscreteWavelets contains code that allows readers to perform various imaging/audio tasks, compute wavelet transformations and their inverses, and visualize/hear the output of their computations. The package can be used by readers to complete either computer labs or the more computationally-intensive exercises.
