Bringing the PMBOK guide to life: a companion for the practicing project manager
Saladis, Frank P.
Kerzner, Harold
The proposed is based on a successful paper presented by the author at last year's PMI Congress. The session titled ‘Bringing the PMBOK Guide to Life’ was one of the most highly attended of all the sessions at the congress, and was voted one of the best (the author was requested to come back for an encore presentation at the end of the conference). The success of the session and the potential for this book project hinge on the fact that although the PMBOK Guide published by PMI as a standard of project management is continuously a best seller (Bookscan and Publishers Alley information indicate that is has sold well over 100,000 copies since it was released in 11/04), and that it is the basis for the PMP and CAPM Exams (which over 25,000 individuals sit for annually), it remains almost undecipherable and cannot be used as a ‘tool’ for managing projects in the real world. It is this confusion over what the PMBOK Guide actually is and how it can be used that makes the proposed of critical interest to the large market of project managers and those studying for the exams. It alsowill be of great interest to PMI as a book that allows greater understanding and use of their standard. The book will walk through the PMBOK Guide and show, point-by-point what is being discussed and how the information presented canbe used more effectively in real-world project management. The authors bring a combination of professional practice, teaching/training, and consulting together which will also make this book a great tool for self study and PMP exam prep training courses. As a new book from the Kerzner/Saladis team it will add to the growing Kerzner franchise and the authors' names alone will add a cachethat others would not be able to lend.
