Women born in 1950s Iran grew up in the peak of secularization and modernization, whereas those born in the 1980s were raised under the Islamic Republic. This book juxtaposes narratives of body and sexuality shared by these different generations of women, using storytelling as an analytical tool for following the changes in the wider social context towards sex and female sexuality in Iran. Based on extensive ethnographic research, this work shows that - through narrating their stories about menarche, sexual intercourse, marriage, and sexual pleasure - women construct and convey meanings and communicate their emotions about the unspoken aspects of their lives.
