This book is a collection of writings of Levon Ter-Petrossian, post-Soviet Armenia’s first president. A controversial figure in Armenian politics, Ter-Petrossian’s political realism led to a compromise solution to the conflict with Turkey in Nagorno-Karabagh. After his return following a decade long hiatus from Armenian politics, he has continued to challenge traditional views and official standpoints of the administrations that followed his. Arman Grigoryan, editor of the book, provides a foreword contextualizing the material in the book for Western audiences as well as annotating the text. The project addresses recurring questions about Armenian-Turkish relations, the legacy of the Armenian genocide of 1915, relations between the Armenian diaspora and the Republic of Armenia, ongoing conflict with Azerbaijan and the Armenian government’s handling of the commemoration of the one-hundredth anniversary of the Armenian genocide.
