Storage networks explained: basics and application of Fibre Channel SAN, NAS, iSCSI, InfiniBand and FCoE

The book is divided into two parts. The first part explores foundation technologies for storage networks by considering intelligent disk subsystems including JBOD, RAID, instant copies and remote mirroring, I/O technologies like SCSI, Fibre Channel, iSCSI, InfiniBand and VIA (Virtual Interface Adaptor), file systems including Network Attached Storage (NAS), Direct Access File System (DAFS) and sStorage virtualisation. The second part of the book presents the applications that exploit the new infrastructure of storage networks. These include: SAN Solutions including data mirroring, multi-pathing, virtualisation inside the I/O path, scalability, clustering, Network Backup, Management of storagenetworks including monitoring, rule based error handling, discovery and configuration and the management of removable media. Two new, hot areas will be addressed: data archiving and business continuity. The authors present the fundamentals of storage networks by showing how these technologies can best work together to meet current business requirements. The accessible chapters of the first edition of the book have been thoroughly updated.
