Nitride phosphors and solid state lighting

Until recently, semiconductor light-emitting diodes (LEDs) were used mainly as simple indicator lamps in electronics and toys. Now, they have begun to replace bulbs in many applications, particularly those requiring durability, compactness, cool operation and/or directionality. This book explores the principles, preparation, and applications of luminescent materials for solid state lighting. The authors focus on an important class of nitride phosphors that are being heavily researched and commercially utilized in these types of applications. They address the design principles, synthesis, luminescence, quantum efficiency, and thermal quenching of nitride phosphors.
