Bioactive Lipid Mediators in Cardiopulmonary Pharmacology
Zeldin, Darryl C
Seubert, John
Bioactive lipid mediators are derived from the metabolism of N-3 and N-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) by cyclooxygenases (COXs), lipooxygenases (LOXs) and cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYPs). These mediators are involved in a vast array of signaling pathways that regulate both physiological and pathophysiological responses. There is significant interest in developing new therapies that modulate the production and elimination of these metabolites which have been shown to play a role in a variety of diseases of the heart and lung. This volume offers unique insights into how these bioactive lipid mediators regulate homeostasis with a focus on the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and reviews recent work on the development of novel therapeutics that target these critical cellular pathways. Provides reviews from world experts in the field of bioactive lipid mediators Each chapter focuses on current topics with an emphasis on development of novel therapeutics The issue covers a diverse range of bioactive lipids derived from COX, LOX or CYP-mediated metabolism of omega-3 and omega-6 PUFAs INDICE: Preface Darryl Zeldin and John Seubert 1.
